Poor Baby

Doggie suddenly hit down by stroke on last Thursday (Nov 5th, 2009) early morning while sipping water from her bowl around 1.30am. She fell down to the bowl and the water spilled all over the living room. I believe she was frighten by the sudden attack also.

Mom sent her to a veterinary clinic in town and she was given an injection to smooth the blood flow in the artery to the brain. Unfortunately I was told, terrier have greater chance to get stroke during their old age compare to other species of dog. So, no more fried chicken, grilled chicken wing, cha-siu, siu-yok, cheese and all other high cholesterol food in her diet from now on.doggie

The head tilted to right side and one leg is unable to even stand up. She is moving in circles and falling over and over when she is trying to walk over to welcome me. So sad to see she loss her balance and unable to walk properly anymore. This is the first time after 15 years, I deeply feel doggie is old. No longer active and naughty as she normally do whenever someone came back home. My cutie waggly tail can no longer wag her tail and smile with me as usual.

We were so worried what to feed her since then. The vet told us to feed her only ’soft food’, but he didn’t tell me what are they! Gosh~

We tried half 3-in-1 packet cereal mixed in warm water, and god bless she eat! At least she is eating something after whole day of sleep plus starving. The following day, mom cooked her some porridge with minced pork plus dried scallops. Glad she likes it. Mom did her scrambled egg for breakfast sometimes, but we still worried she might not have enough nutrition which possible drive into malnutrition, another problem.

Until last few days, when I confessed my worries to honey, she advised me to buy doggie some pet’s milk powder. What a good suggestion. :D

I went down to a vet clinic and found a milk substitute for dogs, the Animalac Plus by TROY Laboratories. Doggie loves this too. I mixed 2.5 scoops with 60ml warm water, 2 times a day.

Considering to make her a mixture of 5 scoops with 120ml warm water per serving starting next feeding.

Comparing to her normal meal previously, 1 box of cantonese grilled chicken & cha-siu rice, 60ml milk is really nothing for her. She consume rice almost every meal before this.

If you have other suggestions for her ’soft and low cholesterol food’, please drop down your ideas here. We need more choices to try on because we don’t think she will want the same food for every meal. Thanks!

Mom helped to do some simple physiotherapy by using 2 fingers to stroke her neck, 250 times everyday. And finally after exactly 1 week time, doggie can stand and walk better. At least she is not moving in circles, can go to pee on the newspapers accurately again.

Right when me and mom worrying that she didn’t shit for a week since last Thursday, suddenly mom excitedly told me doggie did a big piece of choco mousse on another piece of newspapers this afternoon.

Though the vet told me, it is very slim chance to get doggie back to the original condition because there is no way to reverse or repair the brain damage that has already occurred. But we still try hard and hope doggie could get recover. We are now helping doggie in maintain a healthy lifestyle, to prevent and control the disease from causing more damage to the brain in the future.
